What an amazing and exciting day we had on Friday afternoon. The Colour Run was a fun day for students, parents and staff who joyfully engaged in this great fund raising event. As you can see by the attached photos it certainly was a very colourful event which the students would have spent at least an extra hour participating in. A big thank you to the P&F and our volunteers for setting up and running the event. At times it appeared as though the volunteers were having more fun than the kids. All sponsorship forms and money is due by Friday, children will be entered into a raffle for every $10 raised.
Volunteers Morning Tea
One of the wonderful reasons that OLGC is such a great place to learn is due to the support of many volunteers. Throughout our school we have volunteers that assist by actively being a part of the P&F, contribute to ADHOC, coordinate school banking, volunteer time to assist with events, help in classes, attend excursions, assist running support programs and so much more. To thank the many volunteers we will be having a special mass followed by morning tea on Thursday 29th November in the staffroom.
Our annual Christmas Extravaganza will be held on Sunday 2nd of December at 3:30pm on the school oval. We will begin the event with all students singing Christmas Carols ending with a surprise visitor. Families are then invited to stay and join in the festivities. Families will be able to purchase food and drink and there will be variety of entertainment for children.
I am glad to say that the Nature Play project has finally started! I have been informed that the project will take 4 weeks, however, based on the last project we will just have to wait and see. Works will include:
Limestone wall added around existing play equipment along Miles street, white softfall sand added and mulch to surrounding areas.
Kindy/PP fencing replaced and extended.
Small grassed area added to Kindy/PP.
Nature Play Area: water play area, slide & tunnel, amphitheater, area landscaped and fenced.
School banking is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn the benefits of saving. In order for school banking to continue at OLGC we require the support of volunteers.
If you are able to assist by volunteering your time on a Wednesday morning from 8:00-9:00am please contact Sharon Seaman, Zana Appellee, Mel Fowler or the front office.
Sunday 11 November is Remembrance Day, where Australians show that they have not forgotten over 100,000 Australian service men and women who have given their lives in wars in the last 100 years. On Monday 12th November, our Year 6 class will mark this occasion with a Prayer Service at 8:45am. Parents and community members are invited to attend this occasion.
A Christmas without joy is no Christmas at all. Choose to fundraise or collect food, back to school and/or personal care items to help Vinnies assist over 40,000 Western Australians in need this Christmas.
Please donate to our Christmas Appeal. Your donations go towards local's Christmas Day.
All family and friends are warmly invited to our end of year music performances in the school hall. The format for the concerts has changed this year and, instead of individual class performances, there will be two combined year group performances. Each concert will showcase both individual instrumentalists and class items and is expected to last for about an hour.
The first of the two concerts will be on Wednesday 5th December at 8.45am with the students from years 3, 4, 5 & 6 students performing.
The second concert, on Thursday 6th December at 8.45am will include all students from Kindy, Pre Primary, Year 1 & Year 2.
All students wishing to perform a solo item have been given the opportunity to have a run through of their chosen piece in their Week 3 class music lesson. If time permits, there may be another opportunity to play in front of the class later in the term to prepare presentation and announcing skills. Please contact me if you have any queries regarding this.
Choir Carols at Karrinyup
The choir will be singing Christmas Carols twice in the last week of term at Karrinyup this year. They will be singing on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6thDecember from 11.00am to 11.30am under the tree in the centre of the building.
The choir will walk to Karrinyup at 10.50am after recess and will return to school by 11.45am.
Students are required to wear summer uniform with something Christmassy on their heads like tinsel, Santa hat or reindeer antlers. Please do not buy anything especially for this event as I’d rather people use existing decorative items.
Parents, relatives and siblings may attend the performance and are asked to stand on the upstairs balcony overlooking the Christmas tree as this will provide the best view of the choir.
Calling for volunteers – we need your help - in 2019!
Our students really enjoy participating in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program and to keep this program running we need your help.
The program requires more volunteer School Banking Helpers to assist on the weekly school banking roster. This only takes a small amount of your time one day a week on a rotating roster. Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they develop vital saving skills and also help our school with fundraising.
Currently, School Banking day is Wednesday from 8.20am to 8.40am in the School Hall.
If you are interested in volunteering for this great program, please let us know.
