I would like to inform the school community that Karen Nociti has resigned from her position as Kindergarten teacher which will conclude at the end of this Term. I would like to thank Karen for the way she has shared her wonderful early childhood education expertise with so many children over the past seven years. Karen will be furthering her work as a Lecturer at Edith Cowan University as well as obtaining a Masters of Education. I wish Karen all the best in the future. Lillian Monastra will be the temporary Kindergarten Teacher until the end of 2018.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Congratulations to our Year Six children who took part in the Sacrament of Confirmation. It was a wonderful ceremony celebrated by Rev Peter Whitely,Vicar General, and Father Nicholas. A big thank you to Mrs Lillford for the amazing way she prepared the students. Thank you as well to Miss Kenworthy for coordinating and Mrs Bennett and the Choir for the beautiful music.
First Holy Communion
Last Sunday the Year 4 students celebrated their First Holy Communion. The students all looked very angelic and were very reverent on this special day. Thank you to Father Nicholas and Deacon Greg for making it such a wonderful celebration for all the students. Thank you to Mr Carter for all his efforts in preparing the students and to Miss Kenworthy for coordinating the celebration. Again a special thank you goes to Mrs Bennett and the Liturgical Choir who created such a spiritual atmosphere with their beautiful voices.
After School Play
A reminder that although students are allowed to play on the courts and oval after school they must be supervised by their parent. This means that parents must be able to see their child, therefore, if you are on the courts then your child must also be on the courts. All school rules must still be followed.
Automatic Gate Locking System
As outlined in the correspondence sent out earlier this week we will be testing our new gating system. All the gates to enter the school will be on a timed locking system that will lock gates between 9:30am - 2:30pm. This includes the front admin gate, back carpark gate (not active yet), double gate next to the church, gate onto the oval from the church and exit gate on oval to Prisk Street. We will be able to override the system for events such as assemblies and masses.
During the day the only way to enter the school will be through the front office where Jenny will be able to remotely unlock the admin gate. When in the school you will need to exit from the admin gate where there is a button you press to release the gate.
The system has two main purposes. Firstly to keep the children in. The system ensures that children are unable to wander out of the school. Secondly it allows us to know who is entering the school and along with our sign-in system keep track of visitors and volunteers. I would appreciate any feedback so we can adjust timing or procedures for the start of next term.
Lightning Carnival for Year 5 and 6
Last Friday all of our Year 5 and 6 students took part in the Interschool Lightning Carnival. Five other single stream Catholic schools took part in this carnival. Students participated in round robin games of netball, soccer and football. I would like to thank all those parents who were able to give up their valuable time to volunteer on the day, your assistance is very much appreciated. I would like to congratulate all students on the amazing way they represented our school. Not only did the students give their best they also showed wonderful sportsmanship.

School Reports will be sent home next Wednesday. Please spend time reading through the report with your child. This is a great opportunity to celebrate their achievements as well as set goals for the following semester.

New School Banking Coordinators starting from Term 3.
After three and a half years I have decided to take a break from the school banking coordinator role. The new coordinators are Natalie Matsie and Tracy Morarty, together they are going to share the role. I will be continuing my role on the P & F until the remainder of the year and still be on the roster on Wednesday mornings.
We would love to have more parents join the school banking team on a Wednesday morning and it only takes 30-40 minutes of your time to assist with the program when rostered. We rely on the school banking parents to keep this wonderful program going. If you are able to help out please speak with Natalie or Tracy.
Next term there will be rewards for the children to order once they reach their 10-token goal.
Saving regularly is an important habit to get into, whether you're saving a little or a lot. Keep up the great work and remember to bring in your School Banking deposit each Wednesday.
On Thursday 28th June 2018 Australian religious songwriter and singer, AndrewChinn, will be visiting our school to share his songs with our children.
Andrew’s songs, such as “These Hands”, “Rainbow” and “An African Blessing” are used in classrooms and liturgies around Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada . Parents/parishioners are warmly invited to be a part of the celebration of faith and fun. There is no charge for adults.
The concert will take place in the hall, at 1.40pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

I have attended a recent PD for OBV and the most current information is as follows:
The rehearsal for the matinee is scheduled for FRIDAY, 17 AUGUST at 10.00am with the concert to begin at 12.30pm. The concert is planned to finish at around 2.00pm
Tickets will be available from late June through Ticketek at $37 for Adults, $25 for Concession and $115 for Families. I will give specific details about the section to buy tickets in before the end of the term
This year there will be no practice CDs and lyric booklets. All backing tracks, parts, lyrics and choreography can be found on the website under the STUDENT heading using the password pelican.
Please allow your child to spend some time rehearsing the songs over the next few months as there is a lot of repertoire to cover this year. We have been advised that children that don't know the songs will not be able to be filmed for the DVD.

This year during National Reconciliation Week, OLGC children and families
learned more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories. The Year Sixes shared that knowledge through a special whole school assembly and museum exhibit and each class presented their ideas on how to ‘walk the talk’ on the path to Reconciliation.
The Year 1,4 and 6 classes enjoyed the cultural experiences at the Wadjak Reconciliation Walk at Lake Gwelup Reserve on Tuesday 29th May.
Coffee Club continues at assembly this week and don't forget we have the NEW COFFEE MACHINE with real Italian coffee. The proceeds go towards, Meals by Mum's - an initiative to provide meals for the homeless.
Pasta drive delivery to be collected from the canteen at school pick up on Tuesday 26th June.

My name is Colin Krause, I am the Youth Membership Coordinator at St Vincent de Paul Society WA. A part of my role is to identify best ways that primary and high schools can be involved with our organisation. In early July, the St Vincent de Paul Society WA will be opening a new shop in Stirling and is recruiting volunteers now.
Vinnies shops help generate funds for the St Vincent de Paul Society through the sale of donated items of clothing, accessories, books and media, toys and homewares at affordable prices. These funds assist with the St Vincent de Paul Society’s charitable works in homelessness, mental health, youth, financial counselling and emergency relief in the metro area and throughout Western Australia.
We are looking for active and positive volunteers with time to give to assist with sorting and preparing donated goods for sale, interacting with and serving customers and tidying the shop . Whether it is a few hours a week or full days, volunteering is a fun and rewarding experience where people can connect with new people, learn new skills or contribute with their own skills and give back to their local communities.

Vinnies Stirling can also accommodate students over the age of 15 years old looking to complete community service requirements when the shop volunteer base becomes more established later in the year.
During Term 1 William(PP) and Adelaide(YR2) Royce joined our school while their dad Harley underwent treatment for stage 4 Burkitts Lymphoma. Harley's treatment has gone well and the family will be returning to Geraldton at the end of this Term. Adelaide has decided to raise money to help her dad by cutting her very long hair to her shoulders. A few weeks ago the family was featured in The West https://thewest.com.au
Next Tuesday afternoon at 2pm the Year 2 and Pre Primary students will gather in the Hall to watch Adelaide get her hair cut. So far Adelaide has raised $3,000. If you would like to donate please follow the link
