On Friday evening our School Choir participated in the "One Big Voice Concert" held a Perth Arena. The choir participated in a non-competitive massed choir with the aim of bringing the pure joy of singing and music to children. There were 80 schools and over 4,000 students at the event along with around 7,000 audience members. It was a magical evening combining the angelic voices of so many in such a positive way. Well done to all choir members who did an amazing job representing our school. A big thank you to parents who have supported this event and who assisted on the night. A special thanks to Mrs Bennett who puts her heart and soul into preparing our wonderful children.
You may have heard that NAPLAN online is being introduced from 2018, with an aim for all schools to be administering NAPLAN online by 2020.Our school has volunteered to undertake a trial to enable us to assess our technical readiness to implement the new online assessments. This trial gives us a chance to try out the new national online assessment platform in a real-life classroom environment. This trial is called the School Readiness Test (SRT). On the 23rd and 24th August 2017 students in Years 3 & 4 will participate in a trial of the assessment platform, by undertaking a writing assessment and a combined assessment (maths & literacy). Each test will take about 45 minutes to complete. We have chosen these classes so that we are able to assess the actual devices which will be used next year.
Feedback from schools participating in the trial will inform transition to the online assessment as well as provide valuable feedback to shape the final development of the NAPLAN online platform and administration processes. The readiness test has not been constructed to assess curriculum knowledge, but rather to provide students with an opportunity to experience the types of questions that will be included in the new online assessments. As such, reports will not be provided.
A few weeks ago a group of students entered Catholic Education’s 1st Primary Angelico Art Exhibition exhibition. This is a wonderful showcase of creative, colourful, inspirational and spiritual works of visual art created by talented Western Australian Catholic school students. They entered "Uthando Dolls". I am proud to announce that they successfully won the Year 3-6 group submission category. Well done to Miss Kenworthy, Mrs. Luca and all the children who created these beautiful dolls.
We will be sending the dolls off to the KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. This community is deeply affected by the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. This affects the lives of all children, not just orphans, because the parental, family and cultural support around them is missing or fragmented. One way we can help them feel more secure is to support them in PLAY.
P&F Quiz Night
A reminder that this Friday evening the P&F will be holding a great social event for all parents. The Quiz night is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy yourself while interacting with other parents. There a still a few tables left.

"The year 4 netball have had a fantastic first season! They won more than they lost, and played like champions all season! They pushed on through bad weather and injury (2 broken wrists and a ruptured knee and a strained back) and played with "respect" all season.
They made all the parents proud by giving their best every week! More importantly they played as a team, and grew together in friendship! Well done kids!
THANKYOU very much to all the parents who came along every week to cheer us on! Catherine and Anna you rock as managers!
Special mention to Kirk Phillips for your commitment to scoring and timing!... And to Emily, Emily and Christalina for being the best fill in's ever!"
Well done to the choir for their brilliant performance on Friday. The Arena was filled with enthusiasm and exuberance from 3.30pm to 8.30pm. All choir students from OLGC should be thrilled with the way they conducted themselves and the joy they brought to their performance. I am so proud of each and every one of you.
A huge vote of appreciation goes to the wonderful support given by Margy Reeler, Jacquie Fletcher, Lisa Hanna, Rita Maio and Nicole McLean who accompanied the choir to the Arena. Thank you for your assistance, encouragement and patience throughout the rehearsal and performance. Thank you also to all family members who were able to watch their child perform. With your help, motivation and inspiration the children really enjoyed showing you the fruits of their rehearsing.
The choir will now have a well earned break for two weeks. Rehearsals will resume on Wednesdays at 3.00pm on September 6th in the Music Room as we prepare for Christmas. Any new students wishing to join can obtain a letter from either the office or during their class music lessons and return the permission slip before the first rehearsal.
