Picnic on the Green
What a perfect day we had for the annual OLGC family Picnic on the Green. The food was delicious and kids all had a wonderful time playing on the super slide and slippery slide. There were over 200 people in attendance, many commented on the live music setting a relaxing feel to the afternoon. Thank you very much to the P&F for the organisation of the day and ensuring it ran smoothly. We really appreciate all parents who volunteered to make it such a great day.
World's Greatest Shave
A few weeks ago we held a Funky Hair Day and three brave people shaved their heads. Thank you very much to Mr Ferrinda, Jaydon and Kyle for volunteering to have their heads shaved. We are all very proud of you. Thank you to Mrs Lilford and the social ministry for organising the day and to all students and families for supporting such a worthy cause.
Harmony Day
Last Friday we held Harmony Day. Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. Our Year 3 class prepared an amazing assembly and shared poetry, song and dance to teach us about some of the many cultures throughout Australia. Many children wore orange in support and quite a few dressed up in national dress to show their cultural background.
The year Three class were then lucky enough to attend Mirrabooka Harmony Day. This was a fun community event with a host of children’s activities including bouncy castle, animal farm, monster slide, face painting, kite flying, drumming and entertainment from local performers and youth. Many schools attended and enjoyed the fun and educational aspects of the day.
Staff Appointment
We have concluded the employment process for Louise Bonciani’s (Teacher Assistant) replacement. I would like to announce that Jo-Anne Deib will be joining the OLGC Staff. I warmly welcome Jo-Anne to our Staff and look forward to working with her.
Camp
Next week the Year 6 class will be going to Nanga Bush Camp. Mr Carter, Mrs Lilford, Mrs Fanderlinden and I will be joining them on this wonderful adventure. The students will take part in a variety of activities aimed to build their independence, team work and leadership skills.
God bless
Nic Gaglia
Congratulations to Molly on receiving a prize from the Trigg Life Surfing Club for being kind and consistently demonstrating good sportsmanship skills. Molly also attended every week which demonstrated a high level of commitment. Impressive Molly!
If your child has a special achievement please let me know and I will put the details in the newsletter.
The Environmental Ministry ran a Paper Making Workshop throughout Term One.
We did it to show kids what happens to recycled paper and as a way of thinking about how we can do our bit to save the environment.
First we ripped the paper up and put it into a bucket of water to make the pulp. Next we found two wooden frames the same size, put one on top of the other and scooped up the pulp into the recycled paper. We then got a cloth put it over the top, then turned it over to the table. Then we got a sponge and pressed down on the wooden frame. We then squeezed out the water. When it was done we took the frame off, lifted it by the towel and took it over to dry on another table.
Hannah (Year Six): I thought the paper would come out really sloppy and lumpy although it came out pretty flat and was as hard as cardboard.
Kyle (Year Six): I thought it would come out very fragile and lumpy although it came out hard with barely any lumps and you could write on it very well.
Will (Year Six): I thought that it would take long to make but instead it took less time. Also I thought it might have not a lot of paper but it did and it was recycled.
Makayla (Year Two): When I went home I drew on the paper and it worked.
Thank you to everyone who was involved in the paper making. Particular thanks to the staff for supported this initiative and gave up their lunchtimes to run the sessions.

The children's liturgy will be running the 1 st Sunday of the month at the OLGC parish 8 am mass in school terms . The liturgy will commence on 2nd April . The subsequent dates will be 7th May, 4th June,6th August,3rd September, 5 th November and 3rd December.
Is there any one who would like to volunteer to help run the liturgies this year. The volunteer would only need to attend the mass and help run the liturgy by assisting with the activities. Parents can even volunteer on the day at mass and i will particularly need help most likely for the April and June liturgies where the liturgy attendance jumps in numbers from about 10 to 30 children!
Also I will be overseas when the August liturgy is running so if any parent/parents would be keen to run this liturgy please contact the school office.
Thankyou
Jeanette Morley

Parish Lenten Reconciliation
Tuesday 28 March, 7pm at St Dominic’s (instead of Mass). This is the 2nd Penitential Rite where we come together as a community, hear the Word to be lead in examination of conscience and take the opportunity for personal confession. It is a moving experience to witness fellow Christians humbling themselves by publicly approaching a confessor for forgiveness. As they do, we pray for them, that they will know the fullness of God’s grace and mercy. If you require more time to speak with a priest then integral confession and spiritual guidance is available at the First Rite.
The First Rite of Reconciliation is available each Saturday after the 9 am Mass on the 1st and 4th Saturdays at St Dominic's and on the 2nd, 3rd and 5th Saturdays at OLGC
St Patrick’s Breakfast
Thank you to all who attended. The raffle alone raised more that $400.
Singing Practice Saturday 1 April in OLGC church at 10.30am. Everyone is welcome to join us as we rehearse for the next few weeks of Lent and Easter.
St Vincent de Paul Society Help
Our local conference still urgently needs volunteers to help the needy in our own community. Can you spare 2 hours a week? We need people to help with home visitation. Full training and support are available. Giving of your own time to help others is very rewarding. As our local conference only has 4 members, we are in dire need of new members to carry out our work of helping those in need in our own community. All enquiries to Barbara 9446 5324

Project Compassion Week 4
Nguyet lives with a severe disability, and has suffered isolation in her native Vietnam as a result. A Caritas-supported program offered her education, creative outlets and much-needed community interaction. Nguyet has learnt to read and write and better manage her physical needs, and her creative gifts have been unlocked. Now she is increasingly engaging with her neighbours, and she and her parents are more confident about her future. Thank you for your generous contributions.

If you are aged 18+, and want to make a positive difference to the lives of children and their families who visit the hospital then we would like to hear from you.
