Congratulations to Mrs Strijk and her husband on their wedding. It was an amazing day with the couple looking very much in love. I wish them both all the best in the future which I hope will be a wonderful journey through life as husband and wife.
All Souls Day
Last Wednesday students from Pre primary to Year 6 attended a whole school mass for All Souls day. On All Souls day we remember and pray for all those who have gone to heaven. Fr Nicholas gave a wonderful homily about how we are all a gift from God and when we go to heaven we are returning to God. He spoke beautifully to the children about how we can pray for those we know in heaven.
OLGC, Holy Spirit & St John's Collaboration
A few weeks ago teachers from OLGC school and St John's Primary School met at Holy Spirit Primary School. This was the first of many collaborations which will continue next year. This was a wonderful opportunity for teachers to meet and discuss educational issues. Next year we will also be sharing a professional development day together around the topic of Technology integration and the Western Australian Curriculum.
Interschool Team Games
Last Friday our Year 3 and 4 children were involved in interschool team games with other single stream Catholic primary schools. While the children all gave their best, most impressively was the feedback given about their attitude and behaviour. Staff from other schools commented on how well behaved our children were and that they exemplified great sportsmanship.
The Fathering Project
Last week we had a presentation from Darren Harris about how to balance work life with children. Darren was very inspirational sharing stories about his relationship with his father Key points included spending individual quality time with each child, setting clear expectations and making sure that you are not pressuring children into activities but to ensure they enjoy what they do.
Code of Conduct
As part of the System Agreement with the Minister for Education, every school will be required to have a Code of Conduct on child safety in place by 1 January 2017. This Code of Conduct will not only need to be abided by the staff but also the parents, students, volunteers and visitors of the school. Miss Kenworthy and I have attended an information session today and will spend the next few weeks writing the policy. Once it has been finalised parents will be informed and it will be added to the school website.
Getting Along means working well with teachers and classmates, resolving disagreements peacefully, following rules of the classroom and making positive contributions to school, home and the community including protecting the rights of others and looking after the environment. Examples of getting along behaviour are being helpful when working in a group, listening and not interrupting when someone else is speaking, talking rather than fighting when someone acts unfairly, not breaking classroom rules, helping others in need, volunteering for worthy causes and cleaning up the environment.

We are now halfway through term 4 and the canteen is starting to wind down stock levels for the end of year. Although this means some of our favourites might not be available it's a great opportunity to encourage the kids to try something new.
I will also be having pop-up sales running for the next few weeks so keep an eye out around the canteen. This week's sale is a bit fishy with Fish Burgers and Fish, Wedges and Salad only $4 each!
Thanks for your continued support
Thank you to the volunteers who have supported me this year to consistently provide healthy, yummy meals for our children. If you haven't been able to volunteer this year, please consider coming along to help out in 2017. I only ask for a commitment of 3 hours each term and the kids love to see Mum or Dad behind the counter. I will have some volunteer sheets available at the canteen or send me a message on 0402 468 334.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Our students really enjoy participating in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program and to keep this program running we need your help. We are looking for volunteers to assist during the school banking day, as it is becoming popular so are looking into a roster system (similar to the canteen). Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they develop vital saving skills and also help our school with fundraising.
If you are interested in volunteering for this great program, please speak with Sharon or Zana or the program may not run in 2017 without volunteers.
