OLGC School News Shoe Boxes for Kids

The Year Four students’ Evangelisation Project’ was Operation Christmas Child’. The children had to supply Christmas gifts and put them in shoe boxes for children in impoverished circumstances worldwide. Many shoe boxes were filled as a result of the generosity of our children and families. 50 boxes were recently delivered to the local distribution centre. This means that fifty children who are less fortunate than us will receive a present delivered from our school. It was an enriching project for students to see that some children in the world get little or nothing for Christmas. All these boxes have something special, something to love, something for school and something to wear in them.

All Soul's Day, Wednesday 2nd November

Throughout November the Church prays for all those who have died and all who are in Purgatory, waiting for the day when they will join the company of the saints in heaven. The celebration of Mass is the highest means the Church can provide for charity for those who have died, but we can also offer our own prayers, sufferings and penances for them. We can also help the Poor Souls to reach Heaven by praying and doing certain things which have indulgences attached to them.  The November mass stipend envelopes with the names of your deceased family & friends will be placed at the altar at all masses during the month. Please place the envelopes in the weekend collections or brought when you attend the All Soul’s Day mass.

Mass Times for All Soul's Day

  • OLGC    -   9am
  • St Dominic's  - 7pm

Plenary indulgence on All Soul's Day, 2nd November

On All Soul's day you can obtain a plenary indulgence for a departed soul by:

  1. receiving the sacrament of reconciliation, either eight days before or after All Soul's Day
  2. receiving Holy Communion on all Soul's Day
  3. and reciting prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father (one Our Father and one Hail Mary and the Creed) All attachment to sin, even venial sin, must be absent. If one's disposition is less than perfect or if some of the above conditions are not fulfilled, the indulgence becomes partial.

You can acquire only one plenary indulgence on all Soul's day.

Indulgenced Acts for the Poor Souls A partial indulgence can be obtained by devoutly visiting a cemetery and praying for the departed, even if the prayer is only mental.

One can also gain a plenary indulgence visiting a cemetery each day between November 1 and November 8. These indulgences are applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory.

A partial indulgence, applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory, can be obtained when the Eternal Rest is prayed.

Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
